Excellent Car Mount for the Droid 4,
This car mount for the Droid 4 (from Verizon Wireless) does the job and more. It’s well built and fits the phone perfectly and comes with plenty of nice additional features to make it easily worth the price. It’s easy to set up and comes with everything you need to use the Droid 4 in the car.
- Suction Cup (it works a lot better than other car mounts I’ve used).
- Removable plate allows you to use car mount without removing your case (previous mounts, like that for the original Droid, my previous phone, don’t allow this, which meant either no case or removing it every time).
- Locking mechanism for phone (sits into the mount, connects to micro USB connection, and clip locks over the top) works great and keeps phone secure (again, better than other mounts I’ve seen without being bulky). There is a micro USB out port behind the phone (making it less likely to be pulled out of the phone).
- Has a hole in on the left side to allow for 3.5″ audio plug access. Also, the mount does not cover the cameras (both the one on the front and the back) so you can use the cameras while mounted.
- Comes with plate to allow for mounting on dash instead of windshield.
- Comes with charger that has 2 USB ports to allow charging another device as well. Has white LED power indicator.
- The best/most unique feature of this product is the USB cord itself. It goes from micro USB to regular USB to plug into the charger, but at the regular USB end there is a 3.5″ audio jack (female). The product also comes with a 3.5″ male to male cable to plug this jack into your car’s aux input jack. This is a huge benefit as there is nothing extra needed to plug into the phone to get audio out. Also you don’t need to worry about dealing with a Bluetooth connection, which can introduce extra static or drop out.
Once you have your mount set up and cables plugged in, all you need to do is set your phone onto the mount and lock in the top clip, and it’s good to go (the phone also detects it is in the mount and launches into car mode, like most other Android phones).
If you want to use your Droid 4 in the car for navigation, music, calls, handsfree, etc., this is a must-have and I would strongly recommend.

|Awesome mount! Even works with some 3rd party cases,
I’ve had this mount for a few days and I am VERY impressed with it. It is clear from the build quality that Motorola has paid great attention to detail.
PROS:
- excellent build quality
- combined USB power/audio cable
- removable insert to fit your phone with or without a case
- easy snap-lock suction cup design
- ball and socket attachment allows for any viewing angle
- power adapter has two USB ports
CONS:
- USB power adapter is a bit bulky
- price
Firstly, this mount is a little different (but much better) than the Motorola Droid 4 mount offered from Verizon Wireless. The Verizon mount is currently $20 cheaper than this one, but it does not include the car charging adapter or the combined power/audio cable which means that you would a.) need two separate cables for power and audio and b.) have to plug/unplug the audio cable every single time your phone is docked. The combined power/audio cable is ingenious and one of the mount’s best features in my opinion, so I would avoid the mount offered by Verizon.
Another excellent feature of this mount is the removable insert so your phone can fit in the dock with or without a case. I bought a generic $5 case here on Amazon which fits into this dock perfectly (not all cases will fit, such as the Otterbox Commuter, so make sure your case is compatible.)
The suction cup is VERY strong and uses a snap-lock design (as opposed to a twist-tight design utilized by many mounts.) You can be sure the mount will not be falling off your windshield/dashboard. The dock attaches to the mount via a ball and socket so you can rotate it to any viewing angle and then tighten/loosen it easily.
The mount is pricey and the power adapter is bulkier than I would like, but overall the Motorola Droid 4 Vehicle Mount is just about perfect.

|nice dock, but NO PORTRAIT MODE,
Just want to warn people if it matters to them, you CANNOT use this mount with your phone in portrait mode. The car dock locks everything into landscape mode. This sucks for me because I usually put my phone to the left of my steering wheel and my phone won’t fit in there now like my old dock did. I did a quick google of any solutions but nothing yet.
The features of this dock is nicer than the other docks I’ve used. This dock is made to be used with a case. If your phone is bare like mine, there’s an adapter to make it fit properly. The USB cable also has an audio port so that it’s easier to access and to hook up to your car. The power adapter also has two USB ports for anything else you may have like a bluetooth headset.
