I replaced the panel on my 16 GB iPhone 3G with this panel. This review is for the back purchased from Amazon seller TRUST2WORLD. Parts from other vendors may not be of the same quality.

This back feels slightly lighter and more flexible than the one that was on my iPhone. However once everything was back together, I couldn’t tell the difference. All the holes and mounts are present and everything lines up perfectly.

Here are some of my observations on replacing the back, not related to the quality of this panel:

    * This was an extremely difficult job for me, and I grew up tinkering with electronics and am an engineer by profession.
    * There are some thin and delicate ribbon cables that are very easily damaged and must be removed very carefully.
    * Tools you absolutely must have: MAGNETIC TIPPED screwdriver, tweezers. There are literally 30 odd microscopic screws that you need to remove. A magnetic screwdriver will make your life a lot less miserable.
    * The chrome bezel is glued to back using a fairly weak adhesive. Once you take it off, you’ll find bits of glue all along the sides of the frame. Scrape off the residue with an exacto knife or some other sharp blade. If you don’t get the gunk off, you’ll find that the frame doesn’t sit quite flush with your new back.
    * I used tiny dabs of superglue along the sides of the frame to hold the new back in place. You may find that some of the glue overflows the sides and gets onto your shiny new back. I was able to get the excess superglue off using a solvent called Oops! that I had lying around.
    * Some solvents dissolve plastic, so try them out on an inconspicuous spot first!
    * In retrospect, cleaning and gluing on the old frame was the most time consuming and frustrating part of this job. If I had to do this again, I’d just buy another frame for $10 or so.

Follow the directions on iFixit to the last page. At this stage there are still parts on the old back that you will need to take off:
    * The chrome bezel, which is actually the frame of the phone
    * The camera lens, which is a small plastic part that holds the camera glass
    * The camera bezel, which is a tiny silver ring
    * The headphone jack chrome bezel, a small plastic part that holds the silver ring around the headphone jack
    * Speaker grilles, at the bottom of the phone next to the dock connector
    * Silver sticker on the inside of the back of the phone beneath the battery (I’m not sure what this is for, my best guess its some kind of heat insulation material. Didn’t seem to be really necessary. Anyway, I took it off and transferred it over)

Anyway, if you’re careful and methodical and not a klutz, at the end of it all you should have a phone that is essentially indistinguishable from new. Good luck!

Product arrived on time and in good condition. Only it didn’t have the silver rings for the earphone jack and the camera or the mesh for the speakers but used mine from my old back.

I just received this yesteray and have not had a chance to replace the cover but it does seem of good quality, it included the back cover and the sim tray but the tool kit that was offered did not come in the package, I will replace the cover this weekend and will give add the review on that later on.
