AT&T 4G Network

This phone runs on AT&T’s dual-band 850/1900 MHz 4G network (UMTS/HSDPA/HSPA+), and with HSPA+ you’ll experience mobile data speeds up to 4x faster than ordinary mobile broadband–up to approximately 6 Mbps (download). AT&T has deployed HSPA+ to virtually 100 percent of its mobile broadband network, which enables 4G speeds when combined with enhanced backhaul (via Ethernet or fiber).

Backhaul is one of the major pieces of a telecommunications network. Think of it as the limbs connecting AT&T’s cell towers with AT&T’s backbone network that provides access to the Internet.

Coming later in 2011, AT&T will deliver a second layer of 4G network called LTE (Long Term Evolution) that is even faster than HSPA+ speeds.

In areas where either AT&T’s 3G or 4G network is not available, you’ll continue to receive service on the AT&T EDGE network, which offers availability in more than 13,000 US cities and along some 40,000 miles of major highways.

Note: AT&T’s 4G mobile broadband coverage is not available in all areas. 4G speeds delivered by HSPA+ with enhanced backhaul; availability increasing with ongoing backhaul deployment.

Optional AT&T Services

AT&T Navigator: This premium GPS navigation application includes audible turn-by-turn directions, real-time traffic updates and re-routing options, and 3D moving maps (additional charges applicable). AT&T Navigator offers several other features to make your commute more enjoyable and reliable, including mobile access to Yellowpages.com. You’ll be able to find the closes ATM, restaurant, gas station, Wi-Fi hotspot and more with over 10 million business listings.

AT&T FamilyMap: Locate any phone indoors or outdoors on the AT&T Network. FamilyMap provides peace of mind by being able to conveniently locate a family member from your wireless phone or PC and know that your family’s information is secure and private. Great phone for the price, October 28, 2011
This review is from: AT&T Impulse 4G Android Phone (AT&T) (Wireless Phone)

I switched from a Blackberry and wonder why it took so long. I am a google chrome, gmail, etc user, as well as Amazon – so the Android system is great. Couldn’t be happier.

    Fairly Awesome–when it’s working…, November 19, 2011

So far I am very impressed with all the bells and whistles the Impulse offers. I use my phone for light browsing, photos, mp3s, texting and the occasional phone call. But with this phone I could easily I can see myself stepping up with social media applications, and to rent and watch movies or shows.

    Pros:
    -Easy set up
-The phone comes with an upgradeable 2GB memory card.
-It holds a charge for several days depending on use
-The speaker is the best quality I’ve come across in a phone. It even gets loud.
-The built in flash and quick camera speed produces sharp and quality photos.
-The app store is very easy to navigate and the browsing speed is incomparable, I had Netflix up and running in seconds. There is even a preloaded book app with access to Google’s massive public domain library
    -Phone calls are clear

    Neutrals:
-It comes with a lot of pre-loaded apps, so you have to get used to a lot of scrolling.
-It locks itself within seconds and utilizes a drag and drop to unlock (which takes some getting used to and some may find irritating). And you also have top drag to answer calls.

    Cons:
-I only have one big CON. After a few days the touch screen simply stopped responding. I couldn’t even answer incoming calls.

I purchased the phone through ATT wireless so I already have a replacement phone in route. I’m hoping it’s a fluke because so far I really love the phone and hope to update this review and rating.

Update 12/15: Had new phone two weeks now and no issues. Still working great!!

I upgraded from the iPhone 3GS to this and I’m very impressed, overall I believe that the Impulse wins out of a match against the 3GS, but that’s just my opinion. I’m no fanboy by the way, but I do prefer Android over Apple any day.

Looks good, but doesn’t function, January 4, 2012

This review is from: Verizon Motorola A455 Rival – Purple (Verizon) Cellular Phone

I actually had tried two different phones of this kind because I LOVE the size, and LOVE the color. I also loved that it had a slide function versus flip. The first phone I received just basically exploded without the fireworks. And it would never ever ever charge, even with the charger they sent me it would always just say “unauthorized charger” I sent it back thinking it was faulty. The second one came, worked fine, then decided I wanted a smart phone, upgraded, and decided to downgrade due to finances. I tried to charge this new one again so I could prep it for the downgrade…and what a shock. “Unauthorized charger” displayed again. Then froze. Basically it’s good to look at, but don’t use it.

Motorola A455 Rival….not at all happy with it!, December 21, 2011

I like the color….that’s it. When I’m texting someone (when it will let me text) it will send them before I’m finished. It keeps going to another window asking if I want to save or delete the message, or if I want to add contact, or something else crazy like that. It’s part touch screen, and starts bumping in your hand to the point that you have no control over what you want to do. You have to completely close the slide, exit out to the home screen and start over. Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn’t. I definitely would not recommend this phone to anyone!!!

I don’t know if it’s this particular phone that has something wrong with it, or if it’s a problem with all of the Motorola A455 Rivals. Whatever it is, I won’t be purchasing it again. If I could afford to do so, I’d swap it out for an LG Cosmos 2, but the purchase price is way too much right now. I’m going to have to deal with this until June of 2012 when I’m eligible for an upgrade….and believe me when I say that ANYTHING will be an improvement!!!

I have done many purchases through Amazon, and this is the only time I’ve had any problems at all….I’m not afraid to buy through them. I just got really unlucky with this phone.
